2024 MXGP of Latvia - JWR Honda Racing Team Just Outside The Top 10

Round 9 - MXGP of Latvia - FIM World Motocross Championship

Our supported MXGP team - JWR Honda Racing and rider Alvin Östlund, competed at the MXGP of Latvia, Kegums at the weekend. Alvin Östlund has always done well at the MXGP of Latvia and last weekend was no exception. He put in an excellent performance on the sands of Kegums over the whole weekend. Steady riding was absolutely key, as the track went from very dry and dusty on the Saturday to a nearly perfect racing surface on the Sunday.

MXGP of Latvia Timed Practice & Qualifying Race - Sat 8th June 2024

Whilst finding the perfect lap during Timed Practice on Saturday was difficult, it all turned positive in the Qualifying Race. On a new, slightly adjusted track layout which changed the flow a bit, Östlund managed to use the new layout to his advantage and made multiple passes on his Honda CRF 450 R. He moved through the field well, taking P14 and giving him a good gate pick for Sunday's races. Click here to see a video of Östlund leaving the pits between practice laps.

Race 1 - MXGP of Latvia - Sun 9th June 2024

Short bursts of heavy rain in the morning gave the track the perfect amount of water it needed for some good racing. In Race 1, Östlund got a superb start a few places outside the top 10. From then on, he raced hard and made some great passes for a P11 finish.

Race 2 - MXGP of Latvia - Sun 9th June 2024

Heading into Race 2, the track dried out a bit more and Östlund found himself towards the back of the pack off the start. He had to dig deep to find the perfect lines and passes to come back through the field, which he did with aplomb for a P12 finish. This gave Östlund and the JWR Honda Racing team P12 overall for the GP and 19 World Championship Points. Congratulations to the whole team from all of us at AS3 Performance! JWR Honda Racing now heads to Maggiora in Italy for Round 10 of the FIM World Motocross Championship next weekend and we look forward to seeing how they get on there.
