2024 MXGP of Italy at the notorious Maggiora Park MX Track

Round 10 - MXGP of Italy - FIM Motocross World Championship

Our supported MXGP team - JWR Honda Racing and rider Alvin Östlund, competed at the MXGP of Italy, Maggiora Park at the weekend. As has been the case at a lot of rounds this year, the heavens opened intermittently all weekend, making the Saturday especially a mudder!

2024 MXGP of Italy - Timed Practice & Qualifying Race

After a Friday night of rain, the track on Saturday was testing to say the least - deep mud which was sticky as well as slippy! Putting together a quick lap in Timed Practice was just not about skill, it was also about having luck. Yellow flags went up and down throughout due to riders coming off, so it was difficult to put together a decent lap. Östlund managed the 16th fastest time and carried that solid form on to the Qualifying Race, coming home P13 on his Honda CRF 450 R, after a great start. 2024 MXGP of Italy - Race 1

Compared to the torrential downpours that affected the track overnight, the sun came out on Sunday morning and baked the track hard! Ruts were deep and stone-like, making riding conditions extremely treacherous. Östlund got a tremendous start in Race 1, but was a bit out of his comfort zone due to the sketchy track conditions. Nevertheless, he rode a solid race to come home in P15. Click here to see a video of Alvin Östlund in action.

2024 MXGP of Italy - Race 2

Östlund got a great start yet again, but unfortunately got caught up in a domino-effect crash that took the GasGas of Jorge Prado out of the race completely. Östlund had to work his way up through the field from the back and did a great job to get to P16, where he finished. This gave him and the JWR Honda Racing team P16 overall for the weekend and 11 more FIM MX World Championship points. Östlund now has a total of 95 points and sits 19th in the Championship with 9 rounds to go. Congrats to the whole team from all of us at AS3 Performance.
