2025 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship, Newcastle, UK

Billy Bolt seals his 5th SuperEnduro World Championship at Round 6 in Newcastle, UK

On Saturday 1st March we were at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle, which marked the penultimate round of the 2025 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship. It was the second time being held in Newcastle, after last year's event marking the final round of the 2024 Championship. Husqvarna's Billy Bolt won the 2024 Championship at this event last year, but this year it was possible to win his 5th consecutive World Championship with one round to spare. All he needed to do was win the Superpole, as well as race 1 and 2 to be crowned champion - throughout timed practice and qualifying, Bolt, in his Newcastle Utd themed kit, was a class above everyone else and so come race time it seemed a formality. True to form, for the second consecutive year, he claimed the Championship in his home city, much to the delight of the home crowd. Below we will give a breakdown of each Prestige class moto (race).

Fast Eddy Racing Team

Like last year, the event was organised again by Fast Eddy Racing, who we also support with AS3 Performance parts. Harry Edmonson has been competing in the Prestige Class this season and has been test fitting parts for us on his Triumph TF 250-X. On Saturday, he ran our Clutch Cover, Oil Filler Plug, Front Brake and Clutch Reservoir Covers, plus our Rear Brake Disc Guard. For a video walk round of the TF 250-X click here.

SuperEnduro Prestige Class Moto 1

Bolt was in a league of his own on his FE 350, leading from start to finish and lapping riders up to 5th place! Mitch Brightmore on the X-Grip GasGas EC 300 took a solid P2 with his brother and teammate Ashton taking a tight P3, followed by Triumph's Jonny Walker in P4 and Eddie Karlsson on the Stark Varg taking P5. SuperEnduro Prestige Class Moto 2

With a reverse grid, the big hitters started at the back and it was KTM's Dan Mundell who got the holeshot. His lead was short-lived however, as Jonny Walker came through to lead quickly with Bolt hot on his heels. These two experienced riders pulled away and jostled for the lead. Inevitably, Billy Bolt pushed past Walker, cheered on by his home support and went over the line in P1 to clinch his FIFTH SuperEnduro World Title! Click here for a video of the moment Bolt crossed the line and the celebrations that followed. GasGas's Ashton Brightmore came P3, beating his brother Mitch this time into P4.

SuperEnduro Prestige Class Moto 3

Billy Bolt didn't have to race, but due to the nature of the man and in front of his home fans, he wanted to go for the clean sweep of wins. This race was the best of the night! It was a four-way tussle between Bolt, Walker and the Brightmore Brothers, all of them banging bars throughout. Predictably, even though he made a lot of mistakes, Bolt won again, Walker came P2 to cement P2 overall for the night, with Mitch Brightmore grabbing P3. Even though the GasGas brothers ended on the same total points, Mitch was given P3 overall over Ashton, due to Mitch getting a better Superpole result earlier in the evening. Our supported rider Harry Edmondson came 8th overall for his best result of the season. Click here for a video of the Prestige Class behind the start gate before Moto 3.

Junior SuperEnduro World Championship

TTR Squadra Corse Spanish Husqvarna rider, Marc Fernandez, went into the night with the red plate, but it was his nearest title rival - German Beta rider Milan Schmüser - who was fastest in qualifying and grabbed pole, looking head and shoulders above everyone else. Come the motos, Schmüser was the fastest rider out there all night and pulled a big lead in all 3 motos. However, much to the astonishment of the crowd, he made mistakes in all 3, allowing Fernandez by to unbelievably clinch the Round 6 overall, when it should have been Schmüser's on a plate! This meant Fernandez extended his championship lead as KTM's Henry Strauss claimed P2 overall with Schmüser salvaging P3. Going into the final round in France next week, the pressure to win the Championship for Fernandez should be much less. For a video of the SuperEnduro Junior Class racing click here.

More information on SuperEnduro and the event

Below we cover a range of topics about SuperEnduro and specifically Round 6 of the 2025 World Championship in Newcastle, UK.

What is SuperEnduro?

SuperEnduro is the same as an endurocross series that they hold over in America. Tracks are built inside arenas so are undercover and it usually takes place during the winter months when Enduro riders are not riding Hard Enduro or EnduroGP outside. The tracks consist of jumps and obstacles including rocks, boulders, logs and concrete pipes.

What is the format and Schedule for an FIM SuperEnduro event?

Typically, the SuperEnduro event takes place on a Saturday and features the Prestige (Pro) Class, Junior Class and other classes, depending on the event. 14 riders make the final in each class, with timed qualifying through the day to determine the fastest 14 riders. The top 7 quickest riders from these 14 then enter a Superpole race, where each of the 7 can do 2 flying laps to try and get the fastest times to determine the start gate picks. The top 3 in this Superpole also get points - 3 for the fastest, 2 for 2nd fastest and 1 for 3rd fastest. The main event consists of 3 motos (races) which each last for 6 minutes plus 1 lap. The starting gate houses only 7 bikes so starts consist of 2 rows of riders. In moto 2, the grid is revered so the top 7 fastest riders from qualifying start on the 2nd row. This makes for great racing from a spectator point of view as the fastest riders have to try and come through the field in moto 2. With 20 points for a win, 17 for P2, 15 for P3, points are available for all 14 positions, so ever position really does count. After the 3 motos, the rider with the most points wins the overall.

What is the most popular bike for SuperEnduro?

The majority of SuperEnduro riders race a 300cc two stroke, like in hard enduro. However, more riders are turning to four strokes. Billy Bolt has won the FIM World Championship for the last 5 years on a 350cc four stroke and with the Fast Eddy Racing team on Triumph 250cc four strokes, plus Eddie Karlsson on the Stark Varg, there is currently more of a mixture of bikes.

Who were the SuperEnduro Prestige Class Top 5 in Newcastle?

P1 was Billy Bolt (Husqvarna) with P2 going to Jonny Walker (Triumph) and Mitch Brightmore (GasGas) rounding out the podium with P3. The younger Brightmore, Ashton (GasGas), grabbed P4 with Eddie Karlsson (Stark) claiming P5.

Were there any other SuperEnduro classes racing in Newcastle?

Yes, the SuperEnduro World Youth Cup featuring 125cc bikes raced over 2 motos. It was Trials legend Dougie Lampkin's Son, Fraiser Lampkin, on his Beta 125 RR that came away with the overall, winning both motos and closing the gap on Championship leader, Roman Godino, with a round to go. Godino, also on a Beta, didn't have a good night, but managed to finish P3 overall with his Championship lead being slashed from 30 to 18 points over Lampkin. P2 overall went to Sherco's Hugo Vukcevic. There was also the SuperEnduro National Championship taking place on the night, also racing over 2 motos. Sherco's Jack Price dominated this, easily winning both motos, with Veteran Beta 300 RR rider and commentator, Paul Bolton, grabbing a popular P2 overall. Jack Spencer on another Beta took P3 overall.

What was the SuperEnduro track layout like in Newcastle?

From the start gate, riders headed towards the finish line double the "wrong way" and once over the landing jump, took a 90 degree left turn across logs sandwiched together and the holeshot line, which crossed the middle section of the track. A tight 90 degree left turn over a log and into a 180 degree right hand berm (riders now going the "right way" round the track) led them into a 40m rock garden split up with 3 logs. After the rock garden, the riders hit a kicker log into a 90 degree right-hander consisting of 4 logs about 3m apart. Another 90 degree right hand turn brought the riders into the finish line straight, approximately 40m long with log obstacles, before a rather long finish line double jump. Straight after the landing, riders swept round a 180 degree flat right-hand corner to enter the 1st middle section of the track. Crossing the logs with the holeshot line now on their left, they negotiated more logs and a large stone step-up around 40m in length which led into 1 of 3 concrete pipes around a 180 degree left-hand corner, taking them into the 2nd middle section of the track. Here, another 40m stretch consisted of an even bigger concrete pipe, leading to a wooden spine obstacle and into 3 logs about 3m apart, before the right-hand berm again before the rock garden. This marked 1 lap and the riders then carried on in this direction for the race duration.
