Why Upgrade To Titanium Foot Pegs?

All the top riders use them, so what's the benefit of running titanium foot pegs?

If like us you love taking a close up look at every little detail of a factory race bike, one thing that you will almost always notice is that the foot pegs will have been upgraded from the standard OEM steel pegs to a set of shiny new titanium foot pegs. Whether it be a Beta 300 RR Enduro GP bike or a KTM 450 SX-F MXGP motocross bike, titanium foot pegs are the go to choice for any high level rider. In this feature we highlight the benefits of upgrading your foot pegs from OEM steel to factory titanium.

Titanium Foot Pegs Are Stronger Than Aluminium Foot Pegs

Titanium is well known for it's high strength tolerances and our titanium foot pegs are the strongest foot peg that we offer. Applying weight to the foot pegs is essential for gaining traction when riding motocross and riders need a foot peg they can have confidence in when hitting the big jumps, whoops and berms on modern day motocross tracks. For enduro riders, rock gardens, tree stumps and logs are just a handful of obstacles they need to navigate and all thing that the foot pegs could potentially come in to contact with which is why using a strong set of foot pegs is important. Our titanium foot pegs are manufactured from grade 5 Ti-6Al-4V titanium which is most commonly used in the motorsports industry, this same grade of titanium is also used when producing our titanium rear brake pedal tips and titanium bolts.

Titanium Foot Pegs Provide Better Grip Than OEM Foot Pegs

The teeth on our titanium foot pegs are laser cut, much bigger and more aggressive than the moulded teeth on the OEM foot pegs. To give you some context on this we did a comparison using the OEM foot pegs on a 2021 Kawasaki KX 250 and comparing them to the AS3 titanium foot pegs for the same bike. The depth of the teeth on the AS3 foot pegs measure 9mm where as the teeth on the OEM foot pegs are only 5mm. The tips of the teeth on our titanium foot pegs are also shaped to more of a point, with the teeth on the OEM pegs being a lot more rounded off. Over time the tips of the teeth on the OEM foot pegs will wear down faster resulting in loss of grip where as the teeth on our titanium pegs will stay sharper for longer due to the strength of the titanium material.

Titanium Foot Pegs Are Lighter Than Steel Foot Pegs

Another benefit of installing titanium foot pegs is the saving in weight over steel foot pegs. Reducing weight can make all the difference in motorsport as it can effect how the motorcycle feels and handles and also help reduce fatigue. For example if you're riding in a 2 hour long enduro event, the lighter you can make your motorcycle and the easier it is to manoeuvre will make life much easier in the latter stages of the race. To better illustrate this we weighed both the OEM foot pegs from our 2021 Kawasaki KX 250 and the AS3 Titanium foot pegs for the same bike, as you can see from the image below the OEM pegs weighed 457g and the AS3 titanium foot pegs weighed 346g giving you a total weight saving of 111g (25% lighter).

Titanium Foot Pegs Are Wider Than Most Other Foot Pegs

On some bikes the standard foot pegs can be quite narrow and often riders can look to change them to a wider foot peg with more grip that they feel more comfortable with. A great example of this and a bike that we sell a lot of foot pegs for which we believe is largely due to this is the Honda CRF 300 L. The OEM foot pegs measure only 45mm wide where as our titanium foot pegs are 60mm wide, an increase of 15mm which doesn't sound a lot but it can make all the difference to your riding position.

Titanium Foot Pegs Look Better Than Any Other Foot Pegs

Ok, so maybe this isn't actually a genuine performance benefit but more of a personal opinion which is why we snook it in at the end! However when you obsess over every last detail of a motorcycle like we do, seeing a bike fitted with a nice new set of titanium foot pegs really sets it apart from the stock OEM look. Our titanium foot pegs have a natural brushed finish and have our AS3 Performance logo laser etched in to both sides of each foot peg.

Who Uses AS3 Performance Titanium Foot Pegs?

Our titanium foot pegs have been used by a range of different riders competing in various different races and events from junior club level racing to world championship motocross and enduro events. Extreme enduro rider Jonathan Richardson used them in the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship, competing in events such as Erzberg Rodeo in Austria and XL Extreme Lagares in Portugal. FRT Racing's Emanuele Alberio also used our titanium foot pegs when competing in some of the European rounds of the EMX 250 and MX2 MXGP events. Most recently Whiskey Throttle Media chose to run a set of our titanium foot pegs on their Suzuki RMZ 450 project bike.
