AS3 Performance Weekly Round Up #35
Final Round Of The 2024 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship
GP of United Kingdom, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Saturday 2nd March
On Saturday, we headed to the Utilita Arena in Newcastle to watch the final round of the SuperEnduro World Championship. Our Supported Enduro Pro Rider Jonny Walker, was competing for an overall 2024 World Championship podium in the Prestige Class on his Beta 300 RR. The event was being held in the UK for the first time and was a sell out! Click here for a video of Jonny Walker blitzing the rock garden in free practice.

The event was organised by Fast Eddy Racing, with whom we have a close partnership too and we were treated to a great course layout and great racing. Harry Edmonson was riding in the Junior Class for Fast Eddy Racing Team on his Beta 250 RR, on which he runs our Factory Series Clutch Cover.

Local Pro Enduro hero Billy Bolt, only needed 3 points to wrap up his 4th World Championship, so dominant has he been throughout the 2024 season, in winning all 6 previous GPs! If he claimed the fastest Superpole qualifying time to determine the start positions for the evening's three races, he would wrap us the World Title, as this would give him the 3 points he needed.

In Superpole qualifying, Jonny Walker set the fastest time with Bolt last rider to go, but it was never in doubt for the Husqvarna man - He crossed the line just pipping Walker's time for P1 and with that, clinched World Title number four! The celebrations started as soon as his time was confirmed on the big screen and the home crowd went wild! Click here for a video of Billy Bolt's Superpole lap and the celebrations that followed. With the 2024 World Championship now decided, it was up to our man Jonny Walker to consolidate P2 in the Championship.

Race 1
With the celebrations over for now, theoretically, Bolt didn't need to race any of the night's races at all, but Bolt being Bolt and on his home patch, lined up as usual, testament to the grit and determination of the man (he has been suffering with a leg injury since the 4th Round). Inevitably, Bolt took the holeshot, but it was our man Jonny Walker who led after the first lap on his Beta 300 RR. The determined Bolt, roared on by his adoring Geordie fans, soon got past again though and from there, there was no stopping him. He went on to win race 1, Walker took a steady 2nd place with the GasGas of Mitch Brightmore grabbing P3. Walker's closest rival in German KTM rider Mani Lettenbichler, came home P4.

Race 2
This race had it all and it looked like our Beta man Jonny Walker would take the win. With the usual reverse grid start, Mani Lettenbichler took the holeshot this time, Bolt deciding to hold right back before picking his way through the field. Walker had a decent start and soon got past Lettenbichler with the Beta man starting to pull away, especially as Bolt went down after making a mistake. However, Bolt on his powerful FE 350 four stroke, rode like a rider possessed - he moved through the field, up to and past Walker on the final lap of the race! Unfortunately, Walker made a mistake, getting stuck on one of the log sections with his wheels spinning. This also allowed Lettenbichler to pass him for P2 and Walker came home in third.

Race 3
Race 3 did not go to plan for our man Walker. He went down twice whilst in a good position and Bolt took the win in dominant fashion to clean sweep the night's races - rather fitting for the newly crowned 2024 Champion to end the season. Bolt won ALL seven GP overall rounds! Jonny managed to salvage P3 in the final race, having to come back through the field after his crashes. KTM's Lettenbichler took P2 after another holeshot off the start. Due to the previous race results, Jonny managed to take P2 on the night from Lettenbichler in P3. This is also how the World Championship finished, with Bolt getting the Gold Medal, Walker the Silver and Lettenbichler the Bronze. Click here for video highlights of the evening's races.

I need to change a few things going forward and get rid of the mistakes... it's been a tough year being a privateer, but I am pleased with how things have gone overall... Junior FIM SuperEnduro World Championship
GasGas rider Ashton Brightmore secured the Championship at the final round by winning his home GP. The young Brit ending up winning 5/7 GP's in 2024 but was pushed all the way by Isreal's KTM rider Suff Sella. Ashton has followed in the footsteps of elder brother Mitch, who also won the Junior World Title last year, before moving up to the Prestige Class - Mitch finished a remarkable 5th in the 2024 World Championship. The Brightmore brothers are certainly ones to look out for in the future. With Suff Sella clinching the Silver medal for the World Championship, the Bronze medal for the Championship went to KTM's Hungarian rider Roland Liszka, who took the same points as Milan Schmüser on the night. However, as well as the Holeshot award, Sherco's German rider Schmüser grabbed P3 in Newcastle. Fast Eddy Racing's Harry Edmonson unfortunately had a DNF on the night so didn't go as planned for our supported home rider.
