Prior to Installation:
1. The vehicle should be suitably parked and secured before any work is carried out.
2. Parts should only be installed when the engine is off and the battery is disconnected as per the owner’s manual.
3. Allow enough time for the motorcycle to completely cool down, especially the braking system andbrake fluid.
During Installation:
1. Remove the OEM brake and clutch levers by using the tools recommended in the owner’s manual.
2. Install the new AS3 Performance levers by using the same OEM bolts as the OEM levers.
3. Be careful not to overtighten the bolts which may cause the levers not to operate correctly.
4. After tightening the bolts make sure that the front wheel is spinning freely and that the brake disc is moving freely through the brake pads, apply the brake and re-check frequently.
5. Check that the AS3 Performance front brake lever has the same amount of free play as the OEM lever that you removed. This is important as when the brakes heat up it could make the front brake incredibly sensitive or even start to apply the brake if there is less free play in the AS3 Performance lever than the OEM lever.
6. Check that both levers clear any switchgears or other parts on the handlebar and that they can both be operated correctly without any interference from any other parts on the bike.
7. Use the small bolt and nut on the inside of the levers to adjust the reach setting of each lever to suit the rider.
After Installation:
1. Take time to gradually let the brakes warm up and regularly check that the front wheel is still spinning freely as the temperature of the braking system increases. If the front wheel is not spinning freely do not ride the motorcycle.
2. Regular maintenance checks should be carried out to verify the levers are still secured and functioning correctly after installation is complete.
3. Regularly check that the pivot points on the levers are functioning correctly and they are returning back to their original position. Over time dirt, dust and moisture can cause the pivot points to become stiff. If this happens you may need to clean and lubricate this area of the levers.
When installing the levers if there looks to be an issue with any of the steps above, do not continue with the installation and contact AS3 Performance for advice.
