Corvette Inspired Suzuki RMZ 250 Motocross Bike

Complete restoration of a Suzuki RMZ 250 taking inspiration from a Corvette Stingray C7 and using some key AS3 Performance parts

One of our regular customers in Canada - Andy Wells of Wells Moto Worx has recently finished another restoration for one of his customers. This time he stripped down and restored a 2006 Suzuki RMZ 250 and changed the original colour-way into a Corvette-themed black and red version. The final result is completely different from the original! Below, we detail the AS3 Performance parts used in the build with pictures and descriptions. Silicone Radiator Hoses

Andy chose to run our red silicone radiator hoses on the 2006 RMZ 250 build, to match the red of the frame and swingarm which were powder-coated by Unlimited Chrome (@unlimitiedchrome). We also stock the hoses in yellow to match the original Suzuki yellow. Andy also fitted the hoses using our radiator hose clips, which are sold separately. We recommend marrying any of our radiator hoses with our hose clips, as the latter are produced specifically to clamp the type of silicone hose material used.

Front Brake Line

Andy completely replaced the brake lines on the RMZ 250, using our black Venhill front brake line in the build. AS3 Venhill brake lines are a popular choice for all types of motorcycle riders as they improve response and feel throughout the braking system. This is due to them being made from marine grade steel so expansion is eliminated in the hose. On our brake lines it is also possible to adjust the angle of the banjo, meaning you can get perfect alignment on the master cylinder and caliper when fitted. For the Suzuki motocross models, we also stock the brake lines in yellow plus red.

Front Brake Caliper Repair Kit

Andy restored the front brake caliper using our caliper repair kit. The new seals and rubber boots in our kit were used to replace the originals, which would have been severely worn or perished.

Sintered Front Brake Pads

We offer two types of sintered brake pads - Racing Series and Factory Series. Andy fitted our Racing Series front brake pads which are designed to be used in wetter and muddier conditions. Our Factory Series brake pads are designed to be used in drier conditions. Compared to OEM brake pads, ours are designed to be more responsive in terms of feel and stopping power.

Front & Rear Wheel Bearing & Seal Kit

Our front and rear wheel bearing and seal kits are designed to replace worn wheel bearings and when installed, allow the wheel to spin freely on the axle. Andy replaced the original front wheel bearings and seals, which had worn and corroded over time, with our kits.

FAQ's

Below we answer some frequently answered questions about the Suzuki RMZ 250 as well as some general bike build and restoration questions.

What colour is a standard Suzuki RMZ 250?

Since it was first released in 2004, the RMZ 250 has maintained it's yellow colour year on year. The only big colour differences have been seen on the seat cover, changing between mainly black and blue over the years. In 2004, the seat cover was completely black, 2012-2015 it was black with a red top piece and since 2018, it has been black with a blue top piece. In 2024, the AMA Pro Motocross Toyota Redlands BarX Suzuki 250cc race team ran predominantly yellow plastics with light grey decals and full light grey seat covers with black gripper lines. Riders for this team included Preston Boespflug, Dilan Schwartz and Leo Tucker.

Where can I purchase red parts for my Suzuki RMZ 250?

AS3 Performance supply a wide range of red parts for the Suzuki RMZ 250, covering many years of the model. We stock everything from protection parts like rear brake caliper guards, performance upgrades like silicone hoses, as well as control parts like rear brake pedals and gear levers. How do I turn the silver engine parts on my motocross bike black?

Cerakote is the most popular option to do this. Carakote is a ceramic based liquid sprayable coating. It has high corrosion, chemical and temperature resistance properties and creates a distinctive high end look and feel on many different types of surface.

What's the best way to run a custom frame colour on my motocross bike?

Powder coating is the most popular option to do this. Powder coating is a dry finishing process that is applied using an electric charge which causes the dry powder to fuse to the surface of the metal. This is then set under heat or uv light to create a smooth, hard finish that is tougher and longer-lasting than conventional paint methods which are applied via an evaporating solvent.

Does the Suzuki RMZ 250 come with black rims as standard?

Since 2017, the Suzuki RMZ 250 has come with black rims as standard. Before 2017 and from 2004, the RMZ 250 came with chrome rims. The model definitely looks better with the black rims in our opinion, so is a really nice feature and gives the 250 that "factory" look.
